'Ghost Teller' At the Overholser Mansion, Oct. 27-28

Marilyn A. Hudson, aka 'The Ghost Teller', will be sharing stories during a benefit, "Scary Stories and Twilight Tours" event for the Overholser Mansion.

Stories will be at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. and after each session attendees will be given a docent tour of the historic mansion which some say is haunted. They may not be suitable for very young children.

The Overholser was constructed in 1903 and is one of the truly historic and lovely mansions of those days remaining in Oklahoma City. A lovely lady of a grand era of gowns, gaslight, and galas - the tours provide an opportunity to get in the 'spirit' of the season and support the mansion.

Marilyn A. Hudson is an author and storyteller who uses her training in research and history to bring to life true tales, literacy gems, and her own creations.

OKLAHOMA CITY STORYTELLING FESTIVAL - OKLAHOMA OLIO

Various representative local tellers will be featured in a story concert, called an olio, at noon on Saturday, September 10, 2011.

Marilyn A. Hudson, Norman, Oklahoma, will be among those featured in the Territory Tellers Oklahoma Olio.   This is a popular format originated by the group in the previous Oklahoma City storytelling event called Winter Tales and now has become another popular feature of the newly recast Oklahoma City Storytelling Festival.

The Territory Tellers is the oldest state-wide storytelling organization in the state of Oklahoma.  Members, tellers and listeners alike, support the art of storytelling in all its traditional and emerging formats.

The festival will be September 9-10 and will be held in and around the Arts Center plaza. For more information click here.

SUMMER: 2011 SUMMER : READING THEME IN OK LIBRARIES "World Culture/Travel"
My Program: Suitcases Full of Tales! (2011/A)

Description: Grab the passport, pack a bag, and do not forget the camera! Children will learn a little geography, create a postcard, and hear some marvelous tales from exotic locales around the globe! With the “Trunk of Treasures” – costumes and fun – they will also be part of the program.

Age: Pre-K -5th grade

Miles: 150 miles (however, will consider longer if two or more libraries in the general region schedule a program). Ask about same day-same area discount! If two libraries are within driving distance of each other schedule me on the same day (morning and afternoon) - a discount will be applied!!

Cost: $100 + standard 2-way mileage

Marilyn A. Hudson in Enid, Ok . Dec.3 for "First Friday"

Historic Enid in north central Oklahoma has been busy revitalizing their downtown since 2000. As a result, they have a wonderful community event they call "First Friday". Businesses and community unite to light up the heart of the town.

On Dec. 3, 2010 at around 6 p.m. in one of the stores fronting the square, storyteller and author Marilyn A. Hudson will be on hand to share some stories for children twelve and under. The stories will be historic, seasonal, and great fun!

Hudson has been sharing stories for many years, and in fact got started in storytelling while working for Enid Public Schools "way back when"... Since then, Hudson has appeared at numerous venues across the state. She has shared tales at the historic Overholser, the Lawton community Theater, the OKC Arts Festival, Wintertales, and in schools and libraries. She is a member of the National Storytelling Network, the Oklahoma Territory Tellers, the Oklahoma Association of Storytellers, Oklahoma Presenters and Performers, and the Organization of American Historians.

2ND ANNUAL STORY AND TOUR FADES INTO HISTORY

The 2nd Annual fund raising "Spooky Stories & Twilight Tour" concluded Friday night after three evenings of entertainment and historic tours. Approximately ninety people, many first time visitors, were introduced to the mansion and its history after enjoying tales from "The Ghost Teller."

"Marvelous!", "That was awesome!" "Well done!" "I've got chills!" were heard after each performance as storyteller Hudson, donning a slight Victorian-Steampunk attire, shared two sessions of tales each night perched on an antique chair in the carriage house. Sometimes the aura of spookiness continued as they would tour the mansion some repute it is itself haunted by previous occupants.

"Well, I just think she is lovely!" Hudson said with a laugh when this was mentioned to her. "That may be because I am already haunted - by history."
