Oct. 20, Holdenville, OK - How To Share Picture Books with Young Children



A perfect workshop for parents, grandparents, child care providers, volunteers, and anyone who would like to encourage a love of reading and improve literacy in their community. Attendees will learn how to select, use, and expand the fun of a book with young children.
 
Place: Barnard Memorial UMC, Community Room, 8th & Gulf, Holdenville, Ok
Time: 7:00 p.m. to about 8:30 p.m.

Basics of Storytelling in Holdenville, OK Sept. 30

Oklahoma storyteller, library professional, and author, Marilyn A. Hudson, will offer a "Basics of Storytelling" to community members at Barnard Memorial United Methodist Church, 8th and Gulf Streets, at 7 p.m.to 8:30 p.m.. , Wed. Sept. 30, 2015. There is no charge for this brief workshop.


Attendees will learn the basics of finding, learning, and sharing a story orally to a variety of audience types and ages. Storytelling is an ancient art form being rediscovered for use in boardrooms, pulpits, classrooms, small groups, and the home.

As a storyteller, she has served two terms on the Board of Directors of the state storytelling organization, The Territory Tellers, and has traveled the state sharing stories in libraries, schools and community events. She is the author of "Stories Center Stage", a history of modern storytelling in Oklahoma and "Off the Page!" a how-to book for those who share stories with small children. She has shared stories at various events including, "Wintertales', "The Spirit of Oklahoma Storytelling Festival', 'The Oklahoma City Storytelling Festival', and 'Tejas: The Texas Storytelling Festival'. 

Marilyn A. Hudson has  also had over a hundred articles published newspapers and periodicals, authors several blogs.  Additionally, she is co-author of the action-packed horror novel, The Mound" (2011) and this year released her true crime collection called , "Into Oblivion" (2015).  Other titles include, "The Bones of Summer: A Collection of Chilling Tales";  'Elephant Hips Are Expensive', a children's book,  "One Night Club and a Mule Barn',  'Those Pesky Verses of  Paul' , "Noel Brooks: a Life Shining and Burning" and 'When Death Rode the Rails'.  She is currently working on a collection of true stories related to the early, and rowdy, days of Oklahoma City.
